The Gruskin Group, an award-winning firm based in Springfield, designed the Green Lane Academic Building to provie an ideal setting for learning and collaboration. "We are influenced by the whole building, grand and minute at once, often without even being aware of it," Kean University Professor Alan Robbins observed.

The same event featured the opening of the Edward R. Jajosky Industrial Design Lab, named for Edward R. Jajosky '64, who is also a longtime adjunct professor of industrial design at Kean. Jajosky, together with professor Rose Gonnella, Executive Director of the Robert Busch School of Design, unveiled the signage over the doorway to the brand-new laboratory space.

Designed to faciliate new ways for students and faculty to interact, socialize, engage, learn and study, both inside and outside the classroom, the Green Lane Academic Building features numerous lounges, breakout spaces, intimate nooks and outdoor terraces. Part of Kean's University Boulevard project, a collaboration with the neighboring municipalities of Elizabeth, Union and Hillside to beautify and revitalize the ares, the Green Lane Academic Building provides an iconic gateway to Kean's Union campus and sets the stage for the surrounding area's emergence as a shopping and dining destination.
